September 2015

It has been a time of departures, and a time of some interesting new arrivals.

On September 6, we wished a fond farewell to church member and former Poughkeepsie mayor Nancy Cozean-Jacob. Nancy is moving out to the Midwest to be closer to her children. After worship service on September 13, we wished former Chancel Choir member Anne Hartwell all our best as she moves to the Suffern area to live closer to her daughter's family. Anne has been the coordinator of the church's MedEquip Loan Closet since the program's inception.

Sadly, we said goodbye once again to long time member David Weise in a funeral service held at the church on September 19. It was only last month when we were wishing David and Adrienne well as they moved to Tennessee to be closer to their family. David passed into the Father's arms on September 13. David was a long-time member who worked beind the scenes as a Deacon, and Elder, the church Sexton, and as the Church master for many years. He will be sorely missed, and our prayers for comfort go out to Adrienne and the rest of the large Weise family.

While not necessarily an arrival, "Wednesdays with Dave" returns starting 12:15 p.m. on September 16. Bring you lunch and a topic to discuss with everyone. Bring your questions about your faith, even if you think they might sound a little rediculous.

But the introduction of the latest addition to the Wagner family definitely counts as an "arrival." Little Henry Wagner was introduced to us by his mother and his three siblings during worship service on August 30. Henry did seem to enjoy being the center of attention.

On Saturday, September 26, the church will sponsor a pasta dinner in cooperation with other area churches to help support The Gathering Place: Worship Respite Care Program. You can find more details about the event here.

Pastor Dave and his wife Marvelle have "gone down" to Maine for some time off, and yes, we have verified that to be the correct terminology. While Pastor Dave is away from the pulpit, elder Mary Linge is stepping in today and next week to lead us in worship.

Today was the last week that Adrienne and David Wiese will be attending services with us. The Wieses are moving to Tennessee during the week to an assisted living facility closer to their children. We will miss having them among us each Sunday, even if we will not be missing the whistling of Dave's hearing aid so much ☺. May the blessings of our Lord go with them, comfort them and keep them safe.

And thanks to Gail Seymour for bringing in a cake to commemorate the occasion during Fellowship Hour after the service.

This week, we welcomed Janice Grace back after three weeks away from the organ bench. Many thanks to George Tilley, who filled in for us during Janice's time away. Janice, it really wasn't fair of you to move the keys around on George without telling him first...

We also welcomed back Pastor Geehan to lead us in Communion this week. Bob was back in town in between visits to the family and grandchild in Texas, and the Worship Committee invited him to lead in Communion and to wish the Wieses well in their final worship service with us.

The search for a new pastor is continuing. Bear with us, this is not meant to be a quick process, but we are not trying to draw it out forever either.

Unlike the Augusts of yore, the Consistory does not have this month off this year. Consistory will meet on Monday, August 24 at 7:15 p.m. Let's hope that we can find a cool spot in the church building to hold the meeting, and also for some milder temperatures that week.
