PROPERTY COMMITTEE
The Property Committee has been hard at work on several projects over the past year. We coordinated the repainting of the Narthex as well as refinishing the outside doors. More recently, we contracted Parent Door Company in Cliffside Park to replace the inner door to the Narthex which had become a safety hazard as well as being extremely energy-inefficient. The new door has a tight seal, closes completely on its own, and looks great. Overall we are very pleased with our beautiful new door, and hope that you, as a Congregation are as well.
On April 2nd and May 13th, we asked volunteers to come help us with a "Spring Cleaning" of our basement. Seems the basement has gone through several Springs accumulating many things we might need one day and had been filling up. This was a huge undertaking, but with the help of 15 volunteers, we were able "purge" the basement of all of its clutter in only 3 hours. In the process, we completely filled a dumpster, lost a few pounds and had a great time working together. Thanks to Ray Evangelista who volunteered to grill for the crew (including veggie dogs). Our goal is that by getting rid of all the refuse, we can properly organize the space we have and fulfill our Mission of assisting the local community, Salvation Army and the Salt of the Earth.
The other major project we've undertaken is the installation of a fire-rated ceiling above the shooting range. The ceiling was exposed wood, which was directly beneath the Sanctuary. If a fire were to break out here, a similar tragedy as befell Westside Presbyterian a few years ago might have happened here. The ceiling is intended to slow a fire long enough to allow the Fire Department to respond. The work was performed by 'On the Spot' Construction and we are very pleased with their work.
