Our Beliefs

Our faith at The Reformed Church of Saugerties is based on the core belief in a Trinitarian God, that is; God the creator who brought all things into being, Jesus Christ who came down to earth and lived among us, and the Holy Spirit that moves through our daily lives and guides us on our spiritual journey as Christians. We believe in the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments.  These sacred scriptures are an authoritative account of the interaction of God with humanity and the world in which we live.  Our understanding of the Bible is that these writings are the inspired Word of God.  They are not meant to be interpreted literally, but within the context of their original intention, serving as a guide to influence our faith today.  The Bible, when read in this manner, sheds practical insight on our lives.  As a member of the Reformed Church in America, we celebrate two sacraments; Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Through Baptism we are welcomed into the family of God. The church baptizes infants as well as adults who have never been baptized and are seeking membership in the church.  Once a month we come together at the table to partake in the Lord’s Supper. We believe that through the partaking of the bread and juice we are reminded of our covenant relationship and are reconciled with Christ.  The Lord’s Supper brings us closer to God and ultimately to each other.
