Habitat for Humanity
Glen Lake Community Reformed Church is one of six

Goal - Leelanau Task Force
Build a Habitat home every couple of years.
Current Projects
Last fall (2007) the task force started a house in Maple
City, but had to stop once it was winterized because a family was not found for us.
Since one
of the requirements of a family is to put in sweat
equity by working on the house, we decided to stop until the right
family was provided.

Reaching the Goal
1. To
raise money to cover the cost of building materials and land
acquisition.
2. To
supply a site leader and volunteers for the building the homes.
Raising Funds
We raise funds in several ways:
- Selling $25 squares from charts at our churches
- Organizing occasional dinners or bake sales
- Hosting a home for the Home Builders Parade of Homes
- Annual brunch at Glen Lake Schools, put on by the National Honor
Societies of Glen Lake School and
Leelanau
Schools
Volunteer
Site Leader: Steve Habbeger
His easy going style and neat power tools has helped make
building a joyful process for the volunteers.
Working Together:
We seem to easily split off into small groups and work on different
areas of the house. To a
passer by, it must look like multiple sets of three stooges scurrying
around with 2 x 4s and hammers, but we are actually well coordinated
teams. Of course, having the
owner working beside us makes it doubly joyful.
