Ways to Grow to be more Like Christ

• Decide on a Bible reading plan & read my Bible every day.
• Participate in ____ Burning Hearts Discipleship workshops.
• Become a praying partner in a GLC ministry area.
• Make a plan to memorize scripture.
• Turn off TV for meals or for ____ days.
• Pay off credit cards.
• Take off 10 pounds or accept where you are without complaining.
• Eat dinner as a family.
• Pray for your spouse and children everyday.
• Recycle glass, cans, and cardboard.
• Compost vegetable scraps, teabags, coffee grounds, paper napkins.
• Establish a budget and live within it.
• Work in a soup kitchen.
• Volunteer in the Food Pantry.
• Go for a walk noticing all of God’s beautiful creation.
• Join an exercise class or go to the gym.
• Go on a mission trip (USA or global).
• Pray for a mission team person.
• Get a complete physical.
• Write out information about finances & important business information that a spouse can use in the event of your death.
• Call your spouse or family member from work just to see how they are doing.
• Make it your mission to carry the joy of Jesus in your heart and let it show on your face.
• Identify someone in your life who has enduring, unquenchable joy. Spend time with them at least monthly letting them be your “joy mentor”.
• Clean out closets, room by room.
• Begin tithing (giving % to God first before paying bills).
• Create a daily reminder or regular trigger to remind yourself to turn your eyes back on Jesus (when you check e-mail, hang up the phone, something regular).
• Use a journal or small notebook and keep notes during the sermon for a month or series and review for learnings.
• Spend some time listening in prayer. Ask specific questions and wait quietly for God to answer.
• Check your life-pulse by evaluating your schedule taking note of commitments, activities, time for rest & play.
• Take a Sabbath Day – first explore what that means.
• Say a prayer (“table grace”) before eating ALL meals, even out in public places.
• Plan your meals for 1-2 weeks using heart healthy choices. Shop according to the menu plan.
• Try drinking 5 or more glasses of water a day. Try it for 2 weeks or certain period of time and monitor the results.
• Choose some way to become more active – get up to change TV channels, 10 minutes of stretching daily, etc.
• Get to know 2 neighbors. Invite them over for coffee.
• Become involved in children’s ministry at GLC (FW Friends, Rte. 3:16, VBS, Youth Group).
• Turn off lights and listen to a “praise” tape as you focus your thoughts on the Lord.
• Spend time with kids or grandkids and let them determine the game or activity.

Burning Hearts: Ignite the Passion Within

It is our prayer that every person will make a commitment in January to take one small step to live like Jesus during 2008.  Throughout the year, we will have a special emphasis on an area of discipleship on one Sunday of each month.   This will include a message followed by a 45 minute practical workshop presented by an expert in that area from our region and a light lunch.  The workshops will include tips, how-tos and challenges to live out that area of discipleship.  Read more...
