![]() We trust in God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Trusting God the Father's absolute wisdom, power and love. Trusting Jesus Christ for salvation from sin and suffering. Christ is the head of the church, universal and local. We believe an encounter with Jesus transforms lives! Trusting in the Holy Spirit, through uniquely inspired words called the Bible, to form us into God's covenant people. This relationship with God is available to all who confess their sins, and call out to Jesus in faith. This is a free gift. Worshipping God is the central activity of our church life. Worship is a way we honor God, and learn from Christ through music, art, words, holy sacraments, and prayers. We mature as disciples through Christian education, study of the Bible, friendships, and service to others. We serve Christ by sharing the Good News through words and deeds. We are just sinners, walking the way of Christ the best we can, seeking to love as Jesus loved. We are guided in faith by the Lord's Prayer, the Apostles' Creed, and the Ten Commandments. Commentary on these are found in the Heidelberg Catechism. Our ultimate guide in all matters of faith and morals is the Bible. ![]()
The Reformed Church in America, which includes some of the best-known congregations in North America, was established on this continent 150 years before the Revolutionary War.
The word Reformed comes from the Protestant Reformation which swept across Europe in the 1500s under the leadership of such men as Martin Luther and John Calvin. Calvin's reformation at Geneva spread to many countries, including Scotland (where it became the Presbyterian Church) and the Netherlands (where it became our ancestor, the Dutch Reformed Church). Our history is a long and colorful one which you may enjoy learning more about later. The Dutch Reformed Church established its first congregation in New Amsterdam in 1628. Although Dutch in origin, the Reformed Church in America has for decades included peoples of many races and nationalities in congregations. The denomination currently has about 950 churches in the United States and Canada, with 290,000 members. Each of our congregations is unique, shaped by the needs of its people and its community. Worship services range from highly formal to very informal. In almost all, however, you will find good preaching, a strong program of Christian education, and sympathetic pastoral counseling. To belong to a Reformed church is to be part of a warm and caring Christian family. 8637 Old Channel Trail Montague, Michigan mailing address: 4687 Church Street Montague, Michigan 49437-1323 (231) 894-9415 [e-mail]
